As a global citizen, it is a wonderful privilege for me to introduce myself to you and to be a member of this professional learning community.
I am a passionate teacher and professional student. I am the privileged mother of wonderful twin sons and the wife of a very patient husband. I also enjoy the loyal companionship of two faithful friends, Molly and Buster - our golden labrador family members.
Presently I reside in Townsville, Northern Queensland- the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. I have been living here for the past 15 months. Prior to this, I lived in New Zealand for the past 10 years. I was born in South Africa. I have also had the opportunity to work and teach in Malaysia.
I have been teaching for almost 30 years, across all learning levels, from pre-prep to lecturing at a University. I am in the final stage of completing my Master of Teaching degree and will continue with my doctoral studies in the new year.
Presently I teach a Year 4 class at Townsville Grammar Junior School. This is an Independent Private School in NOrthern Queensland. I am part of the team responsible to leading learning in our school. I also lead ICT. I have the privilege of mentoring final year teaching graduates from our local university, JCU ( James Cook University).
I am passionate about the challenges that face teachers for learning in the 21st century and the opportunity to lead, share and action a vision with teachers, students and the broader community. I am concerned about the fall out and disengagement of students, especially in the secondary phase of schooling. I am committed to reshaping traditional learning structures, contexts, curriculum delivery styles and conventional learning environments and teaching pedagogies and practices.
I am looking forward to the professional discussions , thinking and creativity that we will engage in together.
